She’s rich and getting very much richer, Gina
Rinehart now declared the richest woman on earth.
Reasons from the ?, we are in iron country.
The 58 year old mining magnate has ridden the boom
in Australian commodities market and come out the biggest winner. The sums involved in her wealth are enough to
bring water to several pairs of eyes.
She earns at a rate of $52m dollars per day, that’s $1m dollars every
half an hour or nearly $600 a second. In
total she is estimated to be worth more than $29bn.
That’s an increase of nearly $18bn in the past year
alone, the same year that Gina Rinehart has been involved in some very bitter
public disputes. Firstly, with the
government with the new mining tax and, with three out of her four children
with the control of the family trust.
But she overtakes the likes of Christy Walton of the United States and
Liliane Bettencourt of France to become the world’s richest woman, but she
still has some way to go to match the men, including Microsoft Founder Bill
Gates and Mexico’s Carlos Slim. But the
authors of the new report say that the rate she is going Gina Rinehart is on
target to become the World’s first hundred billion dollar person.
If she continues on the trajectory she is on now that’s
definitely possible. A lot will depend,
of course on the demand for resources and growth in Asia, but if those things
continue unabated it is something that could definitely happen.
Gina Rinehart is a very private person at the
centre of a very public accumulation of wealth which at the moment seems to
have no limit.
